Kindred Souls Cover Picture

Millennia ago, the planet was inhabited by a race of guardians known as the Kindred. That changed the day a blast of energy rocked the earth that wiped out nearly all life on the surface of the planet. Only a handful of the Kindred survived, now imprisoned underground leaving the world at the mercy of malevolent forces—those who would try to dominate the world of the humans who were left alone, without protection.

Now awakening after an eternity of solitude, the Kindred begin their search for the souls that were forced to hide within the very beings who inhabit the earth now. Those who were reborn within the other races have no memory of what they really are or the power they are capable of wielding—but they are beginning to awaken slowly, aware they are more than the physical bodies that contain them.

A war is brewing by breeds unknown in the human world—creatures who each desire total control of the planet with no one alive powerful enough to stop them… Until now…

Excerpt #1 from the book:

He still didn't believe her... What more could she do to convince him that they really were coming for him?

"I believe you," he practically growled in irritation. "I just don't think traveling to the underground is the smartest move we could make."

Chase bit her tongue to corral her rampant thoughts. He could hear them as easily as reading a book. It caught her off guard every single time he did that, but there was no solution to that problem other than shutting her mind down completely against him once more.

"No! Shit, don't do that again," he hissed at once. In a fit of frustration, he tossed the phone down against the console as he irrationally covered his eyes with his hands. "I need to hear you right now," he groaned in complete misery for their situation.

"Kyle, I'm sorry," she reached for him, seeing so clearly how upset he really was. "I don't want to do that. I can't help what I'm thinking when everything is as crazy as it is!"

Out of nowhere, Kyle was taking her face in his hands. His lips crushed against hers in a moment of need. He needed to ground himself with her, wanting her to understand that his anger wasn't aimed against her. The idea that it would drive her to close herself off from him again was more than he could deal with right now. It was the only thing he had left to cling onto when the world he'd known was slowly going mad all around him.

Pulling her roughly to him, his hand embedded itself in her hair as he claimed her mouth carelessly for an endless moment. He felt himself shaking, feeling he was slowly losing control of everything, including himself. She was the last constant in his world, the very last thing he wanted to lose.

Chase felt the desperation in his kiss, accepting his fury as she kissed him right back. Somehow it soothed him and she felt him gentling his hands as they eased their hold on her. His mouth ripped from hers as his face turned down, seeming overwhelmed and ashamed of himself for his actions.

"It's all right," she whispered, pressing her lips softly against his forehead. She felt the heat in his cheeks, imagining he hadn't pictured himself capable of being so rough with anyone before.

Kyle couldn't seem to help himself. His mouth opened to apologize, but instead he pulled her forward to hug her fiercely with a shake of his head.

"I don't know how to keep you safe," he admitted fearfully. "I want to trust you, but this is scaring the shit out of me."

Excerpt #2 from the book:

Oblivious of the warning signs in the air around him, Kyle turned his head sharply and released a long suffering sigh. Grimacing slightly, he calmly lowered the woman's feet to the floor to momentarily flex the muscles of his stiff arm. He was by no means an athlete, he knew.

"I warned them I was not the right person for this job," he complained in discomfort. As he stretched some circulation back into his limbs, he took the time to reach his mind out into the darkness, searching for some sign of what more might be lurking in the distance.

Arik immediately sensed all of his safeguards coming online as the first sign of a mental assault reached his keen senses. In the blink of an eye, he was whole and fully formed, standing in physical form for the first time in over a millennium. He could feel the energy pulsing within himself. It was a delicious sensation.

Without giving the human a chance to defend himself, Arik ripped the unconscious woman from his light grasp. With that, he hurtled a controlled blast of energy at the man, sending him back ten feet until he was pinned up against the far stone wall.

When the man was firmly secured and held immobile, constricted from all but breathing, Arik released a satisfied breath. A sense of strength and control over his abilities washed over him. At once he was reminded of who he truly was in the universe. He stretched the bounds of his aura outward, firmly blocking any further mental assaults against himself.

The dawning of awareness came over him slowly that this man pinned against the wall was speaking to him. His voice was pitched and stuttering. The heat coming off of him was palpable, even from ten feet away. Arik could sense everything in vivid detail and for the barest of moments he was distracted by the overwhelming nature of it.

He could fairly hear the man's heart beating as he his breathing became slightly erratic. No doubt he did want to flee for the door now! It was far too late for that move, however

Who is Kyra?

Excerpt #1 from Silent Mysteries

Torn in the midst :

Caleb could not break this moment between them. Perhaps it was simply desire that held him where he was, but he couldn't pull away from her. Her sleepy eyes were so trusting, so curious... It awakened a need deep within him. For the first time in a very long time, he craved such close companionship from a woman. He wished to know nothing more than this desire to feel the first touch of a young woman's lips

Lowering himself to her, he neared her and swallowed against common sense. He knew this was wrong even as he let go of his inhibitions. He closed his eyes for a second longer, wondering if in the light of day, would he do this? When he opened them, he stared deeply into her eyes, wishing he could read her thoughts. How he had come to be this close to her, he didn't remember anymore.

Unable to deny the greater need within him, he fought against reason and sanity. His hand reached up, brushing the softness of her chin before his fingers laced through her hair. Did she know that he wanted to kiss her? Was she aware of how much he...d been affected by the touch of her fingers on his lips?

Her eyes hesitantly lowered to his lips and he was lost. He had seen her look of uncertainty when she...d been touching him. Was she still remembering that morning in the garden? He wanted more than anything to erase that memory from her mind. He wanted to show her that he was far from a monster. He wanted to remove that trace of fear from her eyes.

His fingers locked in her hair, promising himself to let go if she turned away. He was caressing her as he looked into her eyes. His lips nearly touching hers, he breathed, "Just once, Kyra..." He wished to kiss her just once...

Excerpt #2 from Silent Mysteries

Between Jacob and Serena, there are no easy answers:

He was single of his own choosing. He could have made an effort to find a woman if he'd wanted, but he hadn't been looking. Instead he'd been driven to focus his attention solely on a woman who could never be his. The frustration of it ate at him only because he felt he'd been wasting away his whole life for nothing.

"It isn't fair," she spoke sadly. Tears welled in her eyes and she fought against them weakly. She didn't know what drove her on this way, but before she could stop herself she was telling him, "I will never know true love. You at least have that chance. I am to be paired with a man who is without emotion. I'm going to spend my life never knowing..."

She broke off suddenly. She held her hand to her mouth for a moment as tears fell from her eyes. She saw him draw closer in concern, but she pushed back from him shaking her head.

"I will never know what it is. I am to have none of it and they really don't care at all," she cried softly. Her eyes turned away from his as she closed them and let the tears fall.

Jacob again stepped closer to her. He couldn't stand by and watch her fight against such sorrow alone. He raised a hand to her chin, willing some of his strength into her with his touch.

Serena swallowed and looked back up. She was surprised by the feel of his hand touching her face. It reminded her of that moment outside. Her eyes fell to his lips as she remembered his kiss and her lips parted in reaction.

Something in the room seemed to still around them. Just as it had that day, a strange air of closeness settled between them.
